Today a group of children from Micleuseni, Huzum and Lozova competed against children from Nisporeni and a group from Calimanesti. Different challenges were given and every team collected points. Who recited in the best way their poems? Who had the most beautiful Christmas song? Who presented the best Christmas play? And who put the quickest the Bible verse in the right order?
Well, our kids did great and with only half a point difference, we had an honorable second place!

Yesterday the church in Micleuseni was packed. People from Huzum, Lozova and Micleuseni gathered to celebrate Christmas. And there was a variety in the program: songs, poems, 2 skits and a preaching.

Shoeboxes are given out again

Yesterday we had the possibility to go to the school in Micleuseni and present a small Christmas program. Of course, the main reason why we got invited is because we brought shoe boxes filled with presents for the children. But we were happy that we were also able to sing several Christmas songs about the real reason why we celebrate Christmas: Jesus birth! And we also presented a puppet show in which we explained that the best present to give to Jesus is your heart and to live your life for Him! We pray that many children and adults will understand this Christmas that Jesus was born also for them!

Christmas is coming

Just a week left and than we will celebrate Christmas in the church in Micleuseni. The children from Huzum, the teenagers group, the children from Lozova and the youth from Micleuseni are all practicing for the best results. We hope and pray that many people will come to church on Christmas day to hear and accept the good news about Jesus birth!

Bid mee voor Lena

Bonk, bonk, bonk, horen we ineens. We zitten gelijk rechtop in bed. Het is 23 uur en in Micleuseni is het rond die tijd stil in het dorp. Dus wie staat er op onze achterdeur te bonzen? Spiridon doet de deur open en daar staat ze, Lena. Een vrouw van rond de 50. Ondanks dat het buiten rond het vriespunt is, heeft ze enkel maar een dun shirtje, een legging en sokken aan. Ze huilt, ze zit onder de modder en ze heeft een flinke hoofdwond. Als Spiridon vraagt wat er aan de hand is, zegt ze: kun je me een slaapplek geven voor de nacht? Mijn man heeft me in elkaar geslagen en ik ben gevlucht. Ze heeft moeite om haar balans te houden. Het is duidelijk dat Lena gedronken heeft en ze weet het allemaal niet meer.
Tja, wat doe je dan he? Een dronken, bloedende, in elkaar geslagen vrouw aan de deur om 23 uur 's avonds. Spiridon nodigt haar uit om binnen te komen, we stoppen haar onder de douche, (prijs de Heer dat we nu een douche hebben want anders was het allemaal wat moeilijker geweest). Na Lena in een schone pyama te hebben gestoken, drinkt ze nog een kopje thee, om vervolgens in het geimproviseerde logeerbed te stappen dat we snel in de woonkamer hebben klaargelegd. We doen het licht uit en wensen haar een goede nachtrust.
Terwijl we zelf ook weer in bed stappen, denk ik na over alles wat er in het laatste half uur is gebeurd. Lena houdt me de hele nacht wakker. Ik heb medelijden met haar, wat voor leven heeft Lena? In elkaar geslagen worden en dan bij wildvreemden aankloppen en vragen om onderdak?

Laten we iig voor Lena en haar familie bidden. We kennen haar verder niet maar het is duidelijk dat ze geen rust en vrede in haar leven kent. Heel veel vrouwen in Moldavie hebben een hard en moeilijk leven, zonder hoop of toekomst. Laten we bidden dat vrouwen zoals Lena Hem zullen leren kennen en dat er een blijvende verandering in hun leven zal plaatsvinden.

Happy birthday!

On Tuesday Tanea turned 35 years. Nobody came to celebrate with her on her birthday so yesterday we brought her a nice cake and some presents. She was very happy and thanked us many times. It is always amazing to see how Tanea is so optimistic even if her situation in life is not so easy. We enjoyed the fellowship we had with the family and we also prayed together that God would bless Tanea in the coming year!

 

Tanea in Chisinau

This morning we had an exciting appointment! We promised to pick up Tanea and take her for a ride. Tanea is in a wheelchair and because of the bad roads in Micleuseni, Tanea did not leave her house or garden for the last 10!! years! She was so excited about the trip that she hardly slept the night before;-)

At 9 o'clock the whole family was ready to go! Her sister Viorica looks after her and together with her son Catalin and another cousin, we all got in the car and there we went for a ride: all the way to Chisinau to see the Christmas tree in the centre, the exposition of the exotic animals in the shopping mall and at the end of our trip we went to eat a pizza with a hot cappuccino.

It was a day of joy for Tanea, which she will remember with a smile! May God bless this family who tries to make the best of their situation. And I guess, Tanea's situation is a good reminder of how thankful we all should be that we are able to move around freely without many problems.

Lozova: building inside = ready

The room for the children is ready! Just waiting for Sunday to introduce the room to the children!

Also the room we use for the Sunday Church service got reorganised and cleaned and is ready again to be used!

Now we have some extra space in the front of the church.
The only thing to be done is to buy some more chairs and than we are ready to receive anybody in a proper way!

Uitslag verkiezingen

De verkiezingen zijn achter de rug. Het is geen Pro-Rusland geworden maar ook Pro-Europa heeft slechts een kleine meerderheid. Hieronder een artikel van de NOS:

Nipte zege pro-Europese partijen in Moldavië

MAANDAG, 1 DECEMBER 2014, 00:18 BUITENLAND

Bij de parlementsverkiezingen in Moldavië lijken de pro-Europese partijen de meerderheid van de stemmen te halen. Na telling van 90 procent van de stemmen staan de Liberaal-Democraten, de Liberalen en de Democraten op bijna 45 procent van de stemmen en de twee pro-Russische partijen bijna 40 procent. 

De pro-Europese coalitie zou een regering kunnen vormen, maar daarin zouden dan de nummers één en drie van de uitslag, de Socialistische en de Communistische partij, niet vertegenwoordigd zijn.

Tot op het bot verdeeld

Deze verkiezingen werden van tevoren gezien als een strijd tussen de regerende liberalen die de blik op Europa willen houden en de communisten die juist de banden willen behouden met Rusland.

Toch wordt het geen duidelijke keuze voor Europa of voor Rusland, zegt correspondent Joost van Egmond. "Het land is tot op het bot verdeeld."

In juni tekende de regering van de vroegere Sovjetrepubliek een handelsovereenkomst met de EU. Rusland stelde daarop een importverbod in voor Moldavische wijn, fruit, groente en vlees. 

We blijven bidden voor de regering en de toekomst van Moldavie!

Begrafenis

Gisteren was de begrafenis van broeder George. Rond de 100 mensen waren aanwezig en natuurlijk waren de kinderen uit Huzum ook allemaal present.
Veel mensen waren erg nieuwsgierig hoe een Evangelische begrafenis gaat ipv een Orthodoxe begrafenis.
Tijdens de tocht naar de begraafplaats werd er gezongen en er werd ook regelmatig even stil gestaan. Terwijl we stil stonden kregen de broeders van de kerk om beurten de gelegenheid om iets te zeggen. De meeste preekje gingen over de keuze die broeder George had gemaakt voor God en de aanmoediging voor ons allemaal om nu een keus te maken voor Hem zodat je zeker weet dat je later de eeuwigheid met Hem doorbrengt. Ongeveer 10 preekjes en 25 liederen later kwamen we aan op de begraafplaats en nadat de familieleden afscheid hadden genomen, werd de kist dicht geschroefd en werd broeder George begraven. Hij is bij de Heer en we bidden dat alle aanwezigen op de begrafenis, de woorden die gesproken zijn ter harte zullen nemen en dezelfde keuze zullen maken als onze broeder.

Sommigen van jullie hebben broeder George uit Huzum ontmoet, een rustige man die bereid was te helpen daar waar nodig. Drie jaar terug leerde hij God kennen en sindsdien nodigde hij iedereen die hij tegenkwam uit om ook naar de kerk te komen. Iedere winter maakte hij de kachel aan in het dagcentrum, hij hielp ons bij het rondbrengen van voedselpakketten en het uitdelen van brandhout in Huzum.
Afgelopen maandag voelde broeder George zich niet goed en moest hij met spoed naar het ziekenhuis. Deze morgen kregen we het bericht dat onze broeder nu bij de Heer is. We willen jullie vragen om mee de bidden voor zijn vrouw Vera, zijn kinderen en kleinkinderen. Velen zullen broeder George missen.

Verkiezingen in Moldavie / Elections in Moldova

Aankomende zondag is het zover: verkiezingen in Moldavië. Wat gaat het worden? Pro-Rusland of Pro-Europa. Er wordt veel gespeculeerd en iedereen praat over de toekomst van Moldavië maar er is er maar Een die de toekomst in Zijn hand heeft en we bidden dat Hij Moldavië zal zegenen met mensen die Moldavië op een goede manier zullen besturen. We willen jullie vragen om mee te bidden voor de komende verkiezingen.

Coming Sunday the time is there: elections in Moldova. What it is going to be, nobody knows. Pro-Russia or Pro-Europe? Many people talk and debat about the future of Moldova but there is only One who's actually in charge and so we pray that He will bless Moldova with people that will lead Moldova in a good way. Please pray with us for the upcoming elections.

Team time!

Yesterday we had our so-called social time with the Local Ministry Team. Monthly we are supposed to spend social time together but since we did not plan for months a social outgoing, we decided to spend our social time this time in a different way than eating an ordinary pizza in Chisinau.
So we took off to Iasi and this turned out to be a bit of an adventure: the driver got stopped by the police for speeding but also we were 9 people in the van instead of 6/7? but after giving the police some extra pocket money we moved on. Just near Iasi the car broke down and so we had to walk a bit and take several buses to get to the centre. We ate some food and moved on to see a movie (you got to understand that this is something special for us here, watching a movie in English with Romanian subtitles instead of having movies translated in Russian in the cinema in Chisinau). So there we went and for 3 hours we were amazed that people can spend time and money on making very strange movies about nothing! We got out of the cinema and hopped on the bus again to get us to the place where we were supposed to meet our driver again to get back to Micleuseni. Well, to go short, we arrived home around 23 hour and yes, we can say we will never forget this social time spend together!

Greetings from Iasi

Fellowship groups in Lozova have started!

Yesterday we started a Biblestudy/ Fellowship group in Lozova. The winter has started and so people have more time now because most of the work on the fields is done. A group of 8 adults and 5 children gathered in the church in Lozova and after some tea and coffee, we started with singing some songs and continued with reading the first chapter of the brochure: lessons for faith-life. The first chapter was a basic introduction about who God is, the gap between us and Him and how the gap can be closed if we believe and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. At the end we prayed all together a prayer of repentance.

Next week we continue to study what it means to live as a new born Christian. Next week we talk about reading the Bible and the importance of reading the Word of God.

Tomorrow a second fellowship group will start in Lozova. The same study will be done but in another part of the village. We pray that through these groups more people will get to know God and we will get to know more people in the village. Some people are maybe ashamed to come to the church but would like to hear more about God, a fellowship group might be the ideal solution for them!

May God bless the fellowship times and may these meetings be a blessing for the people in Lozova.

Een dagje winkelen met 13 moeders

Vandaag een dagje wezen shoppen op de markt met 13 moeders. 35 kinderen uit arme gezinnen kregen vandaag nieuwe kleren. Twas een heel gezoek om voor ieder kind de juiste maat, favoriete kleur, etc. te vinden maar op de terugweg zaten er tevreden moeders met hoopjes plastic zakjes in de bus op weg naar huis. Deze dag was een duidelijke demonstratie van Gods liefde en zorg voor kinderen in nood. Sommige kinderen hebben helaas geen moeder die zich intereseert in het welzijn van hun kinderen dus voor sommige kinderen hebben we zelf maar kleding gekocht. Aan het eind van de middag hebben we de plastic zakje even langsgebracht. Aan de stralende ogen was duidelijk te zien hoe blij de kinderen waren met hun nieuwe kleding (op de foto is de blijdschap altijd minder goed te zien om een of andere reden...;-)

Hoogtepunt voor deze meiden: nieuwe winterlaarzen en een warme muts!

Ion zijn vrouw is onlangs overleden aan kanker
en zo goed als het gaat voedt hij zijn dochter Elisea (bijna 2 jaar) alleen op. Ook hier was de hulp welkom! 

The toy shop!

Today the toy shop was open in Huzum. Every child collected points in the last weeks by behaving nicely, eating all the food, memorizing Bible verses, helping with cleaning in and around the building etc. Today the points could be used in the shop to "buy" toys. Some kids had 209 points, others around 50 points. They took turns in entering in the shop and exchanging their points for all kind of toys. Even though some children had more toys than others, at the end everybody was content with their purchases.

De wasmachine doet het!

Gisteren de nieuwe wasmachine aangesloten en het resultaat is natuurlijk super en schoon! Langzaamaan krijgen ook wij euro-stijl in huis. Als je in MD stromend water, een douche en een wasmachine hebt in huis dan leef je euro-stijl en dat wil natuurlijk iedereen wel!
Oh en bijna vergeten te melden: we hebben ook stromend water in de keuken! Tmoet niet gekker worden, he?;-)

Lozova - bijna klaar....maar nog niet helemaal!

Er zijn alweer nieuwe vorderingen in het Lozova- bouw project. En het goede nieuws is dat zelfs met een moldaafse planning het mogelijk moet zijn om het deze maand af te krijgen! We wachen vol spanning af....

Zeeuwse mannendag

Afgelopen zaterdag de zeeuwse mannendag bezocht. Ik was uitgenodigd om iets te vertellen over het werk in Moldavië. Effe spannend natuurlijk om in 8 minuten Moldavië te presenteren voor 450 mannen maar prijs de Heer, het is goed gegaan! Hieronder een paar sheets uit de powerpoint presentatie. (Ik heb begrepen dat later de diverse toespraken ook nog online komen maar dat moeten we nog even afwachten...)
