Winter is coming / De winter komt eraan

As the winter is coming, we start to pray and plan for the coming months. We would appreciate your prayers for us and the local church here:
1) This winter we would like to reach out again in a practical way to people who are in need of food and/ or wood. Pray that those who will receive material help, will also receive Jesus.
2) Fellowship groups. The first two meetings have taken place and as we study Gods Word together, pray that lives will be changed and we will grow closer to Him.
3) Christmas is coming and again this will give us a great opportunity to share about Gods love for all. We would like to organize an evangelistic meeting. Please pray for wisdom to know how and when to organize the meeting in the best way and pray for open hearts of the people that will attend.
4) As you can see in the pictures below, we are able to keep gathering in the new building even during wintertime. We thank the Lord that we have two rooms temporary finished;) And it looks like that soon we might have also a frontdoor and than the building will finally be closed.
5) In the last months we were able to pay of a part of the financial debts and we praise God for this. We still pray for more finances so we can pay back all!
Thank you for your help in prayer and God bless you!

==========================================

Light matches / Lucifers

Some time ago I saw the above image and the message that came with it was: are you closely connected with others? Then you are at a higher risk of having a burn out. Together with Spiridon we talked about which of the light matches represented us now? Of course, it would be nice if we would feel all the time like the first light match: full of energy, enthusiasm and hope but to be honest sometimes I feel more like the 2nd or the 3rd on the right side. Although there are many things that I am thankful for and like in MD, there are also things that cost a lot of energy, bring many frustrations and not so much result can be seen. Taking rest and time to recharge is very important in order to be able to face the different challenges. (Otherwise we really might end up like the last light match and thats defiantly not what we want!). So last week I was able to take a week of rest in NL and I thank the Lord for the week I had. I feel refreshed and I am looking forward what this winter will happen in Lozova.

Happy birthday! / Van harte gefeliciteerd!

Last week one of the elderly ladies I visit in the neighboring village turned 76. Since she only has two sons, who do not care too much for her, I thought it would be nice to surprise her. So together with a birthday cake, the guitar to sing some songs, a nice warm blanket as a present and the Bible to share an encouraging Word, the teenager-girls club and I went for a birthday visit. The lady started to cry when she saw us come, she cried a bit more when she heard us sing and also during the prayer tears came again. She might not have had so many joyful birthdays in her life, but for sure she will remember this one, she said. She just kept being amazed about how we did not forget her. We told her that there is One who never forgets her and He is always near!

Shoes & clothes

In the last 3 weeks we were able to bless a group of children with a pair of good shoes and some nice warm winter clothes. We visited all the families of the children at home and while the children tried on tehir new shoes, it was a good moment to chat with the parents, ask about life, remind them that God is waiting for them and that He loves them and their children. And of course we invited the children and their parents to come to church. All the gifts were received with happiness and thankfulness. It is a joy to see every day the children walking around in their new outfits and with their new shoes on so praise God for this great blessing.
Below a story of some of the children we helped. Two girls we were able to help, didn't have an easy life so far. They have suffered hunger, cold, many days they are not able to go to school so they are behind in education. The sisters live with their parents, who both do not have a job and the family their only income is from what they grow on their land and what they harvest and sell. For several years the family lived without having electricity as their house is situated at the edge of the village on a hill, nobody lives close by so there are no electricity poles or connection points closely available. But one year ago they were finally able to connect their house to electricity. The house this family lives in, is small and not very well isolated. The road to their house is not paved and as soon as it rains or snows it is getting really hard to get to their house. About two years ago this family did not want to receive any help. Probably scared by the Orthodox church and the different rumors that are going through the village about the Evangelical church. As the mother was invited several times by different people, finally she had enough courage and came one time to a church gathering. This changed her opinion and now she allows her daughters to come also to the teenager club.
As we showed the shoes and the jackets to the girls and their mom, the joy was big. Mom said to the girls: “in our life we never received these kind of presents and we never had such fancy shoes and jackets”. The girls were really happy with the new things they received. Since they have to walk every day around 45 minutes to get to school, they know how helpful good shoes are that do not allow mud and snow to get in.

Vandaag is de reis afgelopen / Today the journey ended

Today the journey ended! We look back upon a blessed week. Every day around 20 kids came in the afternoon and besides lots of games and other activities, every day we studied a part of the Gospel, we prayed together and we learned a Bible verse. We continue to pray for these children and their families and we hope to welcome them more often in the church. Many thanks to all who kept us in prayer last week!
