Bye Beatrix, Welcome Willem-Alexander

Today a historical day in dutch history! We said good bye to Queen Beatrix and welcomed our new king Willem-Alexander. Seeing all the splendor, made me think and meditate about another day that will come: the day when Our King will come back! This will be such a great moment and I am looking forward it....but until than I aim to serve the best I can.

With God’s and Dorin’s help the potatoes will grow

Last Saturday I helped with delivering bags of seed potatoes to poor families in the South of Moldova. Many of the families we visited were very surprised that they received a bag full of potatoes for free. We invited the families we visited to come to church the next day and we were happy to see that many of them came. Below the story of one of the families we visited:

After shouting several times “hello, hello” at entrance of the garden and waiting for some minutes, finally the door of the house opens and a lady called Valentina comes out. Her hands are wet and she tries to dry them while apologizing that she didn't show up earlier. She was just washing some clothes. We tell her that it is no problem and then we explain that we have come to deliver some seed potatoes for her. She looks at the bag and we can see how her face starts to light up. Meanwhile also her son Dorin come outside. Being only 9 years old, he already has seen and experienced that life is not easy or fair.

About two years ago his father died of drinking too much alcohol. Before his father died, his addiction ruled the whole family. Valentina and her mother, who in that time also lived with them, would get daily beaten when Dorins father would get home drunk. Nearly every day he would go in the morning to catch 2 or 3 kg of fish in the river nearby. After that he would give the fish to his wife and send her in the village to sell the fish and with the money from the sale, he would get his daily portion of alcohol. After coming home totally drunk, he would beat his wife and his mother in law and then he would end up sleeping somewhere. This would mean finally some rest in the family.

Dorin witnessed since he was young, how his father terrorized the family and thinking only about himself. Now his father is death and his mother tries to continue life in the best way she can. But all the beating affected her health and she cannot find a stable job. Now and then she will be hired by somebody to go and work on the field and this is all the income she has. Her mother moved away to live with another son and this means Valentina is just by herself with Dorin. Proudly his mother shares that Dorin is doing very well in school and this year he will finish the 3rd class with very good grades. Maybe one day Dorin will be able to support and provide for his mother but until that day Valentina is working hard. The seed potatoes she received with much joy cause she knows that with the help of God and Dorin, she will be able to grow these potatoes and for next winter they won’t need to be hungry.

 

Easter program for kids!

Today was not a regular Monday;-) Cause today I traveled to the South-East of Moldova and helped organizing two Easter programs for children from two Day Centre's in the villages Palanca and Crocmaz.

In Moldova Easter will be celebrated on the 5th of May and so many people have just started their preparations for this BIG celebration. Below a picture overview of the program. Let us pray that all the children who today clearly heard the Gospel will understand, believe and receive the resurrected Christ in their hearts!

Aparte denkbeelden...

Ik weet niet of het jullie wel eens overkomen is maar soms realiseer je je ineens dat bepaalde denkbeelden die je hebt eigenlijk gebaseerd zijn op iets dat misschien helemaal niet zo is of dat bijvoorbeeld gewoon met je cultuur of opvoeding te maken heeft. Gisteravond had ik ineens zo'n moment:

Sinds 1 april is de staats/ centrale verwarming uitgezet en dit betekent dus dat we geen verwarming meer in ons appartement hebben. Het voorjaar met lekker warm weer, laat nog even op zich wachten in Moldavië en dus is het ondertussen goed frisjes in ons appartement. Nu hebben we een elektrische deken maar tot nu toe hebben we die nog niet gebruikt.....Gisteravond kreeg Spiridon ineens het lumineuze idee om deze deken op te zoeken en zo te zorgen dat iig we niet meer bibberend gaan slapen.

De vraag is nu natuurlijk, waarom hebben we niet begin april deze deken al tevoorschijn gehaald? En ja, hier komt een denkbeeld om de hoek dat misschien helemaal niet zo'n goede basis heeft. In mijn denken is een elektrische deken voor oude mensen. Als je de 65 bent gepasseerd dan pas kan je de elektrische deken gaan gebruiken. Waar komt dit beeld vandaan??? En waar is het op gebaseerd??? En waar slaat het op?
Als je 30 bent, je woont in Moldavië  zonder verwarming in huis en het is buiten 5 graden, mag je dan geen elektrische deken gebruiken??? Mhhh....als ik er zo over nadenk, tja dan is het natuurlijk een raar idee dat elektrische dekens alleen voor ouderen zijn....en

Dit kleine praktische voorbeeld heeft me gemotiveerd om eens bij mezelf na te gaan wat voor andere denkbeelden en ideeen ik heb die ook misschien niet zulke gefundeerde motieven hebben.

Rom 12:2 - U moet anders worden, door een nieuwe manier van denken. Dan kunt u ontdekken wat God wil. En wat Hij wil, is goed, aangenaam en volmaakt.

Kom vandaag!

Vanmorgen naar de kerk in Micleuseni geweest. Het was er een drukte van belang, alle stoelen waren bezet. Dat is natuurlijk mooi! Hoe meer mensen God's Woord horen, hoe beter. Iedereen uit het dorp was uitgenodigd om deze ochtend naar de kerk te komen en aan het eind van de dienst zouden alle aanwezigen een pakket met verschillende zaden krijgen. Dit was waarschijnlijk voor veel mensen de reden om naar de kerk te komen want de tijd van zaaien is aangebroken. En als je nu niet zaait en voorbereidingen treft dan heb je aankomende winter ook niets te eten.... Dus mensen hier zijn druk begonnen met het omspitten en klaar maken van de grond. Een zadenpakket is dan natuurlijk van harte welkom!

We hopen en bidden we dat het zaad dat tijdens de dienst is gezaaid, ook vrucht zal dragen! Zoals Jezus zegt: het zaad dat in goede aarde is gezaaid, dat is degene die het woord hoort en begrijpt en die draagt dan vrucht - Mat 13:23

Studeren = hard werken!

Je krijgt je diploma niet zomaar ... je moet er wel wat voor doen en daar is Spiridon deze weken dan ook druk mee bezig. De ene dag is er meer vooruitgang dan de andere dag maar morgen bijvoorbeeld  is de eerste controle dag en moet de eerste helft van zijn eindscriptie klaar zijn. En de vraag is natuurlijk, gaat dat lukken op tijd? De klok tikt...(waarschijnlijk wordt het toch wel nachtwerk...)
