Schooltassen / school bags

In de afgelopen twee weken hebben we 100 kinderen een schooltas met schoolspullen gegeven. We zagen vele blije gezichten en we hopen dat naast de schooltas ook het Evangelie mee naar huis wordt genomen.

In the last two weeks we were able to bless 100 children with a schoolbag full of school supplies. We saw many happy faces and we hope that besides the schoolbag also the Gospel will be taken home.

OM-team retreat

Afgelopen week hebben we in Roemenie doorgebracht. Het jaarlijkse teamuitje van OM was dit keer in de buurt van Suceava. De jongens waren natuurlijk erg enthousiast om hun nieuwe paspoort te gebruiken en de grens over te reizen. Eenmaal op plaats van bestemming waren het bezoek aan een kasteel en de wandeling door de bergen het hoogtepunt voor jongens. We hebben een goede week gehad maar nu we weer terug zijn heeft natuurlijk de verbouwing van het huis een hoge prioriteit op onze to-do lijst want we willen graag eind september verhuizen. Deze week bereiden we de jongens voor op hun eerste schooldag: 1 september. Voor alle drie is het een nieuwe school. Sava gaat een vakopleiding in het stadje Nisporeni doen en komt waarschijnlijk alleen de weekenden nog naar huis, Andrei start in klas 5 in Lozova en Marin begint in klas 1 in Lozova. We hopen en bidden voor een goede start!


Last week we were in Romania. The yearly OM team retreat took place near Suceava. The boys were excited to use their new passports and cross the border. Once at our destination the visiting of a castle and a hiking-tour through the mountains were the highlights for the boys. We look back upon a good week but now we are back and we have the finishing of the construction of our house, high on our to-do list as we would like to move at the end of September. Also this week we have to prepare the boys for their first school day: 1 September. All of them will start at a new school. Sava starts in the town Nisporeni and probably will come home only during the weekends, Andrei will start in class 5 in Lozova and Marin will start in class 1, also in Lozova. We hope and pray for a good start.

Het huis / The house

Het is ongeveer eind augustus en we zijn beland in de afwerkfase. Ondertussen zijn alle vloeren en muren binnen klaar, de isolatie is aangebracht en de ramen en deuren op de eerste verdieping zijn geplaatst. En nu komen dus de volgende activiteiten zoals de wanden plamuren en verven, de radiatoren ophangen en lichtknopjes instaleren, een trap maken bij de voordeur en de zijdeur en niet onbelangrijk een afvoer systeem aanleggen. Kortom, er is nog steeds werk te doen dus mocht je extra tijd hebben....;)

It is nearly the end of August and we ended up in the finishing phase. The floors and walls inside are ready, insulation has been placed and windows and doors have been placed on the first level. Now we are moving to the next activities such as straitening and painting the walls, installing the radiators, installing light switches, making some stairs at the front and side door and also very important making a draining system. So shortly we still have some work to do, so if you have spare time...;)

Whats inside the schoolbag?
Wat zit er in de schooltas?

Today over 50 children came to the church in Lozova. Some children had come with their mother, others came with a neighbor or just by themselves. As the adults stayed outside and had a church meeting there, all the children were inside and had a special program for them. At the end of the service the children who will go to school in September got blessed with a school bag full of school supplies. All the 38 children that received a schoolbag were very happy and excited and we hope that this year they will have good school results! The parents were very thankful for all the things their children received and especially the good quality of the school bags was discussed among the older children and the parents.We praise God that He gave us the possibility to help these children and we pray that they will not forget that there is a Heavenly Father who cares for them and knows their needs. We invited the children to come also next week to the church and we hope to stay in contact with them. We want to thank you for your prayers for this afternoon!

Vandaag waren er meer dan 50 kinderen naar de kerk gekomen in Lozova. Sommige kinderen waren met hun moeder gekomen, anderen met een buurvrouw en sommigen waren alleen gekomen. De volwassenen bleven buiten voor hun kerkdienst en voor alle kinderen was er binnen een speciaal programma. Aan het eind van de kerkdienst kregen alle kinderen die in september naar school gaan, een schooltas vol met schoolspullen. Alle 38 kinderen die schoolspullen kregen waren erg enthousiast en blij en we hopen dat ze dit jaar mooie school resultaten zullen hebben! De ouders waren erg dankbaar voor alle spullen die hun kinderen ontvingen en vooral de goede kwaliteit van de rugzakken werd uitgebreid besproken door de oudere kinderen en hun ouders. We danken de Here God dat Hij ons de mogelijkheid heeft gegeven om deze kinderen te helpen en we bidden dat de kinderen niet zullen vergeten dat er een Hemelse Vader is die om hen geeft en hun noden kent. We hebben alle kinderen uitgenodigd om volgende week ook naar de kerk te komen en we hopen dat we in contact kunnen blijven met de kinderen. We willen iedereen bedanken die meegebeden heeft voor deze middag.

Coming Sunday we want to organize a special church service in Lozova, in which we will give school bags and school supplies to children who are in need. We encouraged the people that normally attend the church, to invite children they know that could use some help. We pray that the children with their parents will come to the church and will not be stopped by shame. We would appreciate your prayers for this special evangelism time.

Komende zondag willen we een speciale kerkdienst houden in Lozova, waar we aan het eind van de dienst een schooltas met schoolspullen willen geven aan kinderen die dit nodig hebben. We hebben de mensen die normaal naar de kerk komen, aangemoedigd om kinderen uit te nodigen waarvan ze weten dat ze deze hulp goed kunnen gebruiken. We bidden dat de kinderen en hun ouders inderdaad naar de kerk zullen komen en zich niet zullen schamen. Jullie gebeden worden op prijs gesteld voor deze speciale kerkdienst.

Working together / samen werken

Some days ago the church people from Lozova united in painting the well on the land of the future church. After the work was finished we had a meal together, everybody had brought something: juice, pasteries, fruit, cookies and we enjoyed some nice fellowship together. May God bless the church in Lozova and keep the church united!
Today we finally got the paper we needed from the major for us to be able to take the question about the building permission to court. We continue to pray that Gods will, will be done!

Een paar dagen geleden kwam de kerk in Lozova bij elkaar om samen de put te verven die op het land van de kerk is geinstalleerd. Nadat het werk was afgerond hebben we samen gegeten, iedereen had iets meegebracht: fruit, broodjes, koekjes, sap en samen hadden we een mooie tijd met elkaar. Moge God de kerk in Lozova zegenen en we bidden voor blijvende eenheid!
Vandaag hebben we eindelijk het papier gekregen van de burgemeester dat nodig is om de rechtzaak te beginnen mbt de vraag vd bouwvergunning. We blijven bidden dat Gods wil gedaan zal worden.

Lozova

Gisteren kwamen rond de 25 kinderen naar de kerk in Lozova. We prijzen de Heer dat er meer en meer kinderen komen maar we realizeren ons ook dat de ruimte die we nu hebben beperkt is. We blijven bidden voor de bouwvergunning. Op dit moment verzamelen we de nodige papieren zodat we een rechtzaak kunnen starten. We willen iedereen vragen om te blijven bidden voor de vergunning!

Wij kunnen ons vol vertrouwen tot God wenden, in de zekerheid dat hij naar ons luistert als we hem iets vragen dat in overeenstemming is met zijn wil. - 1 Joh 5:14

Yesterday around 25 children came to church in Lozova. We praise God that more and more children are coming but we also realize that our space is very limited. We continue to pray for the building permission. At the moment we are collecting the right documents to be able to start a court-case. We would like to ask everybody to keep praying for the permission!

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. - 1 John 5:14

Prayer for Andrea

Andrea is a 6 years old girl who comes often to the Day Centre in Huzum. She is not going to school yet but she is frequently attending. When you first meet her you might think she is a shy and quiet girl but as you get to know her, you see a girl crying out for attention, love and looking for stability in her young life. Andrea lives with her grandmother, mother, father and an older brother in a small and broken house. The parents do not have a stable job, nearly every day they are drunk, they fight with each other and under the influence of alcohol they do many horrible things (Andrea has been beaten many times and we also heard that she had been tied to a tree with a chain because she didn’t listen to her drunken parents, etc). Andrea is suffering a lot. 

It is clear that at home she doesn’t get a lot of positive attention or any attention at all and she has to look after herself a lot of time. She leaves the house as often as she can and will walk around the village as she waits for the Day Centre (DC) to open. Andrea is crying out for attention and if she can’t get positive attention than negative attention will do too. So she will often start saying all kind of dirty words to other children (she hears these words from her parents when they fight at home). The children will get angry with her and say something back and then Andrea has a reason to beat the other children. So many times she ends up fighting with others and shouting at others.

At the DC Andrea likes to color. When she starts to color, she is very concentrated and forgets everything around her, she doesn’t pay attention to others anymore and she will focus on her paper. As she is looking for affirmation, she will ask the workers every 2 minutes if she is coloring well? and if they like her paper?, etc. Although it can be tiring sometimes to repeat over and over that you like the way she colors, for Andrea a compliments makes her day and it is great to see how she lifts up her head and for a moment she is proud of herself. We pray that she will have many more moments being proud of herself and being confident that she is able to do good things, leaving behind all the negative comments that she is worth nothing and nobody wants her….

Another thing Andrea likes a lot at the DC is the food. Most of the time she eat a lot of food, as at home she is never sure what she will get and what state she will find her parents in.

A change is gonna come up in Andrea’s life as her father beat her mother so badly, he was send to jail and now Andrea and her mother will move soon to another village. We pray that Andrea will not forget all that she heard at the Day Centre about our Heavenly Father and His love for her. He watches over her and may He keep her safe!

Happy birthday!

Today Marin turns 7 years old and yesterday we went to Chisinau to celebrate his birthday. First we visited the zoo and as it was the first time in his life he went to the zoo, there was a lot to see;) After the zoo we went to eat at Mac Donalds and this morning the birthday boy got his breakfast served in the bed. Happy birthday Marin and we pray that God will keep you safe and will continue to bless you and make you a man after His heart!
